TimberSpan is excited to onboard Tim Porter as the General Manager to lead the business through its next stages of growth and development.
Tim brings global expertise to the company as he has more than 20 years of experience in construction leadership across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the Middle East and the US. His background combines engineering, product development and change leadership, with a consistent focus on turning innovative building systems into practical, code-compliant solutions that perform.
As General Manager, Tim’s focus is on supporting clients to adopt LVL and timber solutions by reducing risk and ensuring cost certainty. This is one of Tim’s key strengths, as through early stakeholder coordination and clear compliance pathways, he enables predictable outcomes across cost, programme and performance. This allows builders, developers and designers to repeatedly use engineered timber with confidence.
In his prior job, Tim led Holmes Solutions’ Construction division, working closely with manufacturers, builders and developers. Tim introduced innovative construction solutions into international markets and established compliance pathways for new products, supporting an early adoption of CLT in both New Zealand and Australia. His industry leadership was further strengthened through his role on the board of Offsite NZ.
When looking ahead, Tim sees an opportunity in steel-to-timber substitution across various builds. TimberSpan can deliver reliable, certain, and effective builds through the advancement of engineered timber systems and design-for-manufacture principles and cost transparency. TimberSpan’s completed projects provide clear proof of this performance.
Tim has seen and followed the growth of Tumu as a Hawke’s Bay local and values the company’s commitment to the community. This drew Tim to the opportunity to work as the General Manager at TimberSpan and to be a part of the Tumu family.
